DIRECTV offers a wide variety of programming in high definition (HD), and is adding system capacity to support up to 150 HD channels. To receive HD you'll need an HD or HD-ready TV, a DIRECTV HD receiver, and what DIRECTV calls "HD Access". A subscription to HD Access entitles you to receive the available HD version of channels in your base package (e.g., if Animal Planet is in your base package, you'll get Animal Planet HD). You will also receive HD local channels in your area, and any HD programming associated with other subscriptions you may have (e.g., HBO HD if you subscribe to HBO).
